Introduction
Hi everyone, my name is Dante and I’m a fourth year Economics major. I’m really excited
for this course as I think it will help with how I see and can use social media as a tool.
I am from Victoria and I have very deep family roots on the Island. I love spending time
outside in the summer, whether it’s hiking, playing outdoor volleyball or going to the lake. This
summer I am doing wildland firefighting for the first time for a contract crew, and I am really
looking forward to getting sent out. I can get sent out with as little as 12hrs notice for a two week
deployment so it can be a little anxiety inducing but I’m really excited for the opportunity.
I have previously had multiple jobs, I was a host at a restaurant, I worked at the
Starbucks on the UVIC campus for three years, and I have done some work for a small family
office doing some private equity acquisitions. I am still unsure as to what I want to do after
graduation but I think this course will be helpful in whatever sector of work I may find myself in.
Some of my favourite hobbies are traveling, film photography, making coffee and playing
sports with my friends. I try to stay very active but in a social way, I think exercise is a lot more
fun when you’re enjoying yourself and spending time with people you like to be around, so I try
and prioritize that.
I don’t have much experience in using any social media platforms besides the super
mainstream ones so I am really intrigued to see how I can develop my understanding of how I
can use these tools in my everyday life or in the workplace.
